From his early beginnings with Battiato to the "I Medici" series soundtrack, Catanese composer Paolo Buonvino will be conducting the Concertone on August 22nd.

MELPIGNANO – The Notte della Taranta Foundation has announced ahead of time the name of the maestro concertatorefor the next edition, scheduled for August 22nd. The artist is actually already in Salento for a first meeting with the musicians. The choice fell on 51-year-old composer Paolo Buonvino from the province of Catania.

His biography takes us from his early beginnings as Franco Battiato’s assistant to his well-known soundtracks. The first one is for “La Piovra 8”, then in 2016 he composed the score for the TV series “I Medici”. In 2008 he won the David di Donatello and the Nastro d’Argento for the “Chaos Calmo” soundtrack, a film by Nanni Moretti. He aslo boasts collaborations with well-known directors and singers, including Negramaro.

“I am really happy to start this journey today together with La Notte della Taranta – said Buonvino when meeting the orchestra -. I wanted this adventure to begin very early so that the meeting with musicians, scholars and professionals, could be as deep and intense as possible. A symbol of union and healing, the “pizzica” offers me the opportunity to elaborate a synthesis of values ​​that I deeply resonate with. Puglia, as well as my beloved Sicily, are both wonderful lands, unique and rich in history; I am honoured to have been invited to bring my musical imagery into your traditions filled with meaning. I hope that the energy and inner motivation that bring me here, will gift you on August 22nd with the best synthesis of all that we will be able to build together by combining our stories and sensitivities. In this way, we will give music that authentic and fundamental role of making us all feel united ”.

“We asked Buonvino to celebrate our era by projecting it into the future, blending sounds of the past with rhythms and arrangements that express the depth and passion of the Notte della Taranta and its protagonists – explained the president of the foundation, Massimo Manera, who highlights how the multi-year programming allows the master to work on the Concertone for nine months. The choice of a composer is in fact determined by the desire to deliver to the public a work that is the result of musical research in the field “.
